The faculty of technology’s department of engineering at Portsmouth University purchased the Emco Maxxmill 350, 5 axis vertical milling centre and the Imes Icore ECO iCut NT 22Kw fully Waterjet cutting system.
Located in their new student Engineering Training Area, it gives their students the opportunity to gain a greater experience of the advanced manufacturing processes, machining of materials and their applications for the full process of conceptual design through to making the finished part.
The Emco Maxxmill 350 is a highly dynamic milling centre using the latest Siemens Sinumerik 840D SHOPMILL software. Having 12,000 RPM spindle speed and 3 metres per minute rapid traverse, it gives the user the capability to machine in multiple axes without the need for multiple set ups.
The Imes Icore ECO iCut NT waterjet machine is a compact, fully enclosed solution. It offers the user the capability to cut almost any material up to a thickness of 20 mm, quickly and accurately with minimal material wastage.
